Total Facial Width to Height Ratio

1 min read · Updated October 4, 2026

Total face height, hairline to chin, relative to face width; a measure of how long or round the face is.

What it is

This is the overall proportion of the whole face: how tall it is compared with how wide. The app reports it as total height divided by width, so a higher number means a longer, narrower face and a lower one a rounder, wider face.

How it's measured

Height runs from the hairline to the bottom of the chin, with the hairline estimated from landmarks and combined with a hairline-free height taken from the brow so a fringe or hat can't throw it off. Width is cheekbone width. Both are taken in a levelled frame.

How it's read

Adult faces most often fall between roughly 1.3 and 1.5, meaning the face is a third to a half taller than it is wide. Ranges are set separately for men and women and overlap heavily.

What affects it

Because the hairline is part of the height, a very high or very low hairline can nudge this ratio. Camera tilt matters again: shoot level and straight on so height and width are compared fairly.
