How masculine or feminine the jaw, brow ridge and overall face shape read.
How it's assessed
Each region below is graded for how strongly it reads as typical for the sex you select, on a 1 to 10 scale against people of the same sex, where 5 is typical. A region that reads strongly as the other sex scores lower. The full explanation is on the Dimorphism overview.
Jaw
In men, a wide, square, well-angled jaw reads as masculine, and a soft, rounded or narrow jaw as less so. In women, a softer, narrower, tapered jaw reads as feminine, and a wide, heavy or square jaw as less so.
Jaw definition, how sharp the jawline looks, is graded separately under Angularity. This item is about the shape and width of the jaw itself.
Brow Ridge
The brow ridge is the bony ridge above the eyes. In men, a prominent, projected ridge reads as masculine, and a smooth, flat brow as less so. In women, a smooth, flat brow reads as feminine and a pronounced bony ridge as less so.
The ridge is easiest to see from the side, so a front photo gives a partial view: shadows and brow position stand in for projection.
Face Shape
In men, a rugged, angular, rectangular face reads as masculine, and a round, oval or heart-shaped face as less so. In women, an oval or heart-shaped face with a tapered chin reads as feminine, and a wide, square, rugged face as less so.
Face shape comes from the overall outline: the width of the jaw and cheeks, the height of the face and how the chin finishes.
